WHAT IF THE OPEN IS IN THE MIDDLE OR BOTTOM OF A BIG HARNESS WITH 100 PLUS WIRES WILL IT STILL PICK IT UP

The open circuit signal can get absorbed by wires surrounding it, so if you have a very thick wire bundle signal strength to the ECT receiver is less.
